Identifying Hazardous Materials
This course has been developed to help the Fire Inspector and Investigator in identifying and dealing with hazardous materials.
The course includes:
- What is hazardous materials?
- Identifying and understanding the many different types of Department of Transportation (DOT) Placards.
- Understanding commodity and other markings on shipping packages.
- Different types of documentation for hazardous material transportation.
- NFPA 704 Using and understanding the standard that addresses the health, flammability, instability, and related hazards that are presented by short-term, acute exposure to a material under conditions of fire, spill, or similar emergencies.
- Locations and types of Transportation for Hazardous Materials.
- Types of storage containers from small bottles to large above ground tanks.
- Types of transport vehicles including tanker trucks to railway cars.
- Transporting of hazardous material via pipelines.
- Clues of possible hazardous material Fire Incidents.
- Potential Criminal or Terrorist Targets
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), how to use and understand.
- The Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) Understanding how it is used.
This course will take you approximately 3 hrs. to complete.
